ぷにぷに電機がデジタルシングル『海を feat. Sara Wakui』を2025年8月27日（水）に、ワーナーミュージック・グループ傘下のグローバルディストリビューターADA Japanよりリリースする。
本作は「海」を、生きるために不可欠な存在の象徴として描き、その喪失と失った記憶を歌い上げた作品。返ってくることのないものを求め続ける心と、その底にある静かな諦念が、楽曲全体に深い陰影を与えている。
編曲を手がけたのは、現代ジャズやクラシックシーンで活躍し、Adoのライブサポートピアニストとしても知られる作曲家・鍵盤奏者の和久井沙良。過去にぷにぷに電機のライブにて和久井がサポートを務め、2023年にはビルボード横浜でも共演した二人の信頼関係が、本作での共作につながった。
レコーディングには、クラシックギター界の鬼才・閑喜弦介、オーストラリア出身で現在の日本ジャズシーンを牽引するベーシストであるマーティ・ホロベック、フュージョンをルーツに持ち、藤井風やReolなどのライブや録音に起用される若き俊英ドラマー・上原俊亮が参加。ミックスはstudio MSRの奥田泰次によるもの。アコースティック楽器の響きと豊かなアンサンブルが、歌詞に込められた情景と感情を鮮やかに浮かび上がらせる。
歌詞には、涙、傷跡、空、そして「あの海を返して」という印象的なフレーズが繰り返される。その願いが叶わないことを知りながらも、喪失の先に揺れるかすかな光を見つめるように、歌声は静かに響き渡る。和久井の緻密なアレンジとぷにぷに電機の透明感ある歌声が溶け合い、失われたものへの祈りと希望を波間へと送り出す一曲だ。
全編8mmフィルムで撮影されたミュージックビデオは、フランス文学者で映像作家の原智広が手掛ける。独自の映像美で、楽曲に込められた情感を静謐に映し出している。

Punipunidenki will release the digital single an ocean feat. Sara Wakui on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, via ADA Japan, the global distributor under Warner Music Group.
The song depicts an ocean as a symbol of something essential to life, singing of its loss and the memories of what has been lost. A longing for what will never return, and the quiet resignation beneath it, cast a deep shadow over the entire piece.
The arrangement is by composer and pianist Sara Wakui, active in the contemporary jazz and classical scenes and known as a live support pianist for Ado. Having previously worked together when Wakui supported a Punipunidenki live performance, and later sharing the stage at Billboard Yokohama in 2023, the trust built between the two artists led to this collaboration.
The recording features Gensuke Kanki, a virtuoso of the classical guitar world; Marty Holoubek, an Australia-born bassist who is at the forefront of today’s Japanese jazz scene; and Shunsuke Uehara, a rising drummer with roots in fusion, known for his live and studio work with artists including Fujii Kaze, Reol, and others. Mixed by Taiji Okuda at studio MSR. The acoustic resonance and rich ensemble vividly bring to life the imagery and emotions woven into the lyrics.
The lyrics evoke tears, scars, a sky, and the striking refrain, “Give me back that ocean.” Knowing that this wish will never come true, the vocals nonetheless gaze toward the faint light that sways beyond loss. Wakui’s meticulous arrangement blends seamlessly with Punipunidenki’s transparent voice, sending a prayer and a glimmer of hope for what has been lost into the waves.
The music video, shot entirely on 8mm film, is directed by Tomohiro Hara, a French literature scholar and filmmaker. He captures the emotions embedded in the song with quiet serenity with his distinctive visual style.
